Pomegranate is a popular and easy to grow shrub that will produce lovely red flowers followed by juicy, delicious fruit. In colder climates the shrub needs to be grown in sheltered areas as it will only tolerate very mild frost.

Sowing:  Pomegranate is easy to grow from seed. Before sowing, soak the seeds in tepid water for around 24 hours. Sow the seeds indoors or in a propagator at no less than 22-25°C temperature.  Sow around 1.5 cm deep. Germination can take between 2 to 6 weeks. Pot on once the seedlings are large enough and place in a light, warm place. In summer, the plants can be taken outside once danger of frost has passed.

Tip: For the first couple of years, it would be best to grow the plant in a pot so in winter  it can be kept indoors frost free. Once established, it can be planted outside permanently.
