Product Description

Bottle Palm

Hyophorbe Lagenicaulis

Packet contents: 8 seeds

The packaging of this product is fully compostable, so once you have finished with it, it can be added to the compost heap, so nothing goes to landfill.

An incredibly attractive and unusual palm with a bottle shaped trunk and a crown that holds up to five leathery, pinnate fronds supported by a slender, waxy crown. The Bottle Palm is a tough plant that can take drought and coastal conditions without a problem.

Preparation: Soak the seeds in tepid  water for about three days, change the water every day.

Sowing: Sow the seeds in sowing compost with coir, vermiculite or sand. Place the seeds just under the surface of the soil, water lightly and cover with glass or with a plastic bag to maintain temperature and humidity. Place somewhere warm. Once small shoots appear, remove the cover. When the seedlings are strong enough to handle, pot them on.

The Bottle Palm grows slowly and will take quite a few years to form its bottle like shape.

Required temperature to germinate: 22-25⁰C

Germination time: 8-12 weeks, up to 6 months

Standard EU seed for the hobby gardener, packed in the UK.

Country of origin: Germany

Tip: Bottle Palms are tender plants, so they will need protection from frost.
