The Yellow Flame Tree, also known as Copper Rod Tree, is a striking tree with beautiful large fragrant, crinkly-petalled, bright yellow flowers, which form pods which are up to 10 cm long and 2 cm broad, and are red at first, ripening to dark brown/black. It is a deciduous tropical tree, so is frost tender – can be grown in large containers and protected in winter or in the ground where hard frost is not common.

The packaging of this product is fully compostable, so once you have finished with it, it can be added to the compost heap.

Sowing: Growing Yellow Flame Tree from seed is relatively easy. Place the seeds in well-drained, fine compost, cover lightly with some compost or fine grit and keep moist at regular temperature of 15°C to 20°C. The seeds should germinate between 4 to 8 weeks, but sometimes may take longer. Once the first true leaves have developed, pot on the seedlings in larger containers.

Tip: To speed up the germination, prior to sowing, the seeds can be soaked for 24 hours or gently scarified so water can penetrate.
