Samanea Saman, also known as Rain Tree, is a wide-canopied, flowering tree with a large symmetrical umbrella-shaped crown. While it is native to Central and South America, it can be cultivated indoors in the UK as a container plant, allowing enthusiasts to enjoy its distinctive characteristics on a smaller scale. It produces pinkish flowers with an unusual shape and large seed pods.

Sowing: To grow successfully Rain Tree from seed, scarify the hard seed coat, then soak the seeds in warm water for 12-24 hours. Sow them in a well-drained, sandy compost at 20-25°C, keeping them consistently moist and protected from drying out. Be patient, as germination can take several weeks to months. Once the first true leaves have developed, pot on the seedlings in larger containers. As a tropical tree, Samanea Saman will thrive in humid environment, so make sure humidity is good if grown indoors.
