Musa Sikkimensis can grow up to 4.5 m tall with large leaves. This is one of the hardiest bananas and, once mature, can be planted outside. Like all bananas, it grows very fast and will give any border that extra special tropical look.

Preparation: Soak the seeds in tepid, sterilised or distilled water for about two days, change the water after the first day.

Sowing: Sow the seeds in sowing compost with coir, vermiculite or sand. Sow the seeds half covered with the growing medium and place them in either a propagator or cover with a plastic bag to maintain temperature and humidity. Once small shoots appear, move the seedling into peat free compost mixed with sand or vermiculite.

Required temperature to germinate: Daytime 30-35⁰C/Night 15-20⁰C

Germination time: 6-8 weeks

Tip: Place/plant banana plants out of the wind. Strong winds will quickly damage the large leaves.
