Aegle Marmelos, also known as bael tree or Bengal quince, is a deciduous shrub or small to medium-sized tree, tall with slender drooping branches and rather open, irregular crown. In maturity it will produce large fruits described as tasting of marmalade and smelling of roses. The fruit is rich in vitamin C and other vitamins and minerals and has a wide range of culinary as well as medicinal uses.

Sowing: Growing Aegle Marmelos from seed is relatively easy. Place the seeds in well-drained, sandy compost and cover lightly with some sand or grit and keep moist at regular temperature of 20°C to 25°C. The seeds should germinate between 4 to 8 weeks, but sometimes may take longer. Once the first true leaves have developed, pot on the seedlings in larger containers of fine compost.

 Tip: In colder climates, the tree should be grown in large containers and protected from hard frost in winter.
