This is a very popular ornamental tree/shrub in subtropical and tropical climates, grown for its beautiful flowers and also as a medicinal plant. Good for treating skin conditions, fever, some contagious diseases, etc.

Sowing:  Before sowing the seeds, they should be gently scarified, then soaked in tepid water for 24 hours. After that sow the seeds in good compost around 2.5 cm deep. Keep the growing medium moist but do not overwater. Place in a bright and warm location. Seedlings should appear in around 4 to 6 weeks.

Once the seedlings are strong enough, they can be potted on.

Tip: In long periods of very low temperatures, the tree should be protected from the frost. It will tolerate mild, short frost.
