This is a striking, deciduous tree with large flowers in bright orange-reddish colours hence its common name Flame of the Forest. When mature, it will produce large clusters of flowers that will make any garden look impressive. The leaves also have nice, unusual shape. It is a tropical plant so must be kept frost free.

Sowing:  Sow the seeds indoors or in a propagator at no less than 25°C temperature. Make a mixture of compost and sand or vermiculite so it’s light and airy. Place the seeds flat just under the surface of the growing medium and keep moist but do not overwater. Germination will occur between 2 to 6 weeks and sometimes even longer.

Once the seedlings are strong enough, they can be potted on.

Tip: In colder climates, the tree should be grown in a large container.
