Cassia Alata, also known as Senna Alata, is a beautiful evergreen flowering bush/small tree with flowers in the shape of a candlestick, hence its common name. It is also grown for its medicinal use – as a treatment for various conditions.

Sowing:  Before sowing the seeds, they should be gently scarified, then soaked in cold water for 24 hours. After that sow the seeds in good compost around 2.5 cm deep. Keep the growing medium moist but do not overwater. Place in a bright and warm location. Seedlings should appear in around 4 to 6 weeks.

Once the seedlings are strong enough, they can be potted on.

Tip: In long periods of very low temperatures, the bush should be protected from the frost. It will tolerate mild, short frost.
