An attractive ever green, fast growing tree with pendulous drooping branches, leaves are greatly modified so that only the leaf teeth are visible at the nodes or joints. The number of leaf teeth varies between 6 and 8 per node. Cones are 2-3 cm long, 2 cm wide with small thin wings. Native to New South Wales and Queensland.
Sowing. She-oak is easy to grow from seed. Sow the seeds in good compost just under the surface. Keep the growing medium moist but do not overwater. Place in a bright and warm location. Seedlings should appear in around 2 to 4 weeks. Once the seedlings are strong enough, they can be potted on.
Tip: She-oak will tolerate very light, short frost as well as drought and strong winds. If temperatures are to drop below zero for a prolonged period, it will need protection.
