This is an easy to grow hardy lily which blooms in stunning, large, cobra shaped flowers. The leaves are also showy and will add structure and tropical look to the garden. It will do well in a sheltered part of the garden with dappled shade. It will require good drainage and kept moist but not wet during the winter dormancy.

Sowing: Sow indoors at any time. Soak the seeds in warm water for 24 hours. Then sow just under the surface of moist, well-drained peat free compost mixed with coir and vermiculite. Place the seeds in the growing medium with the pointed end down. Keep in a warm, light place. Germination should begin within two weeks but can be erratic and take a lot longer. Once the seedlings have developed one well-shaped leaf on a long stem, transplant in larger pots. Once the plant is mature, it can be planted outside in permanent position, or gown in large pots.

Tip: In winter the Cobra Lily will require good drainage and thick mulch to prevent the rhizomes from rotting.
