This is a very popular ornamental tree/shrub in subtropical and tropical climates, grown for its sweetly scented flowers and also used as a food item in the Indian cuisine. It will bloom in striking clusters of orchid like scented flowers and has got beautiful foliage, too. It will make every garden look breathtaking.

Sowing:  Before sowing the seeds, they should be gently scarified, then soaked in tepid water for 24 hours. After that sow the seeds in good compost around 2.5 cm deep. Keep the growing medium moist but do not overwater. Place in a bright and warm location. Seedlings should appear in around 4 to 6 weeks.

Once the seedlings are strong enough, they can be potted on.

Tip: In long periods of very low temperatures, the tree should be protected from the frost. It will tolerate mild, short frost.
