Peacock Flower

Caesalpinia Pulcherrima

Packet contents: 7 seeds

Caesalpinia pulcherrima, also known as Peacock Flower or Red Bird of Paradise, is a deciduous or evergreen shrub or small tree with a spreading crown. It is widely grown in tropical gardens as an ornamental and as a hedge, being valued especially for its incredibly showy blossoms.

Sowing: Growing Peacock Flower is relatively easy. To speed up germination, soak the seeds in warm water for 24 to 48 hours. Once the seeds look swollen, they are ready. Sow the seeds in fine compost just under the surface, do not bury them. Keep moist and place in a warm, light place. The seeds should germinate between 4 to 8 weeks. Once the first true leaves have developed, pot on the seedlings in larger containers of fine compost.

Tip: In colder climates, the Peacock Flower shrub will die back in winter and will regrow the following spring. Where hard frost is expected, it must be protected.
