Hedychium Rubrum, also known as Red Ginger Lily, is a truly magnificent plant with tall, upright stems of bold banana palm-like leaves which pad out your planting space with lush, jungle-like greenery. As a bonus, from late summer through to autumn these sturdy stems are topped with a truly fabulous, chunky, fragrant blooms. The plant is a fast-growing perennial so  will come back year after year.

Sowing:  Before sowing, soak the seeds in tepid water for 24 hours. After that sow the seeds in good compost around 0.5 cm deep. Keep the growing medium moist but do not overwater. Place in a bright and warm location at a steady temperature of around 20-25°C. Seedlings should appear in around 2 to 6 weeks.

Once the seedlings are strong enough, they can be potted on.

Tip: The seeds can be gently scarified to help germination.
