Sacred Lotus is one of the most popular aquatic plants. It produces striking large velvety green leaves and large flowers. Great for ponds and other water features.

Sowing: Starting Sacred Lotus from seed is relatively easy but can take a long time. The seeds have hard shells so they must be carefully scarified for water to penetrate. Then the seeds are soaked in warm, clean water with temperature of around 21°C. The seeds will remain soaked until the seed germinates. The water must be changed daily and kept bacteria free. The same temperature must be maintained at all times. The seed will gradually swell and within a few weeks it should germinate. Once the seedling appears, it must be kept in clean, warm water in a well-lit place until it starts developing leaves. Once the seedling is established, it can be planted in some aquatic compost.
