The packaging of this product is fully compostable, so once you have finished with it, it can be added to the compost heap, so nothing goes to landfill.

The Bird of Paradise is a stunning plant that will produce  long spikes with beautiful orange and blue, birdlike flowers (hence the common name), which are often used as cut flowers. It does well in temperate and subtropical climates, preferring a spot in full sun, and is fairly drought and frost tolerant.

Preparation: Remove the orange tuft from the seeds and soak them  in tepid  water for about two days, change the water every day. Scarify lightly each seed so water can penetrate.

Sowing: Sow the seeds in sowing compost mixed with a bit of coir, vermiculite or sand. Place the seeds around 2 cm deep in the soil, water and cover with glass or with a plastic bag to maintain temperature and humidity. Place somewhere warm.

Required temperature to germinate: 22-25⁰C

Germination time: 8-12 weeks

Tip: Don’t pot on the Strelitzia Reginae too often as this will delay the blooming process.
