Sweet William Herald Of Spring  will grow up to 60 cm and will flower in single blooms in lovely mixed shades. It flowers in spring up to two weeks earlier than standard varieties. It will produce large flowers on sturdy stems, so will make a great cut flower.

Sow indoors, February-April. A warm kitchen windowsill is all you need for starting these seeds. Sprinkle on the top of trays of compost and cover lightly with vermiculate. Water well and place in a warm position. A temperature of 15-20°C is ideal. Keep moist. Seedlings usually appear in 14-28 days. Transplant them 5cm apart to further trays when large enough to handle (always hold by a leaf, never by the stem). Grow on in cooler, but not cold conditions. Gradually accustom young plants to outside conditions (avoid frosts) before planting out May-June 15cm  apart, in well-drained soil when frosts are over. Choose sunny position.

Flowers: May/June-October the following year.

Tip:  Plant in large clusters to enjoy continuous carpet of colour.
